Look How Lovely! ¡Mira qué lindo!

Author - Marti Skarupa

A brief summary of the book:

A bilingual illustrated children's story and poetry book that inspires the magic, wonder, and joy of nature as revealed through the eyes of a grandchild as he takes a walk with his grandparents.

Extended Description

It began early one afternoon as the grandfather,
the grandmother, and the child walked
to a nearby slope where an old and giant tree stood.
The grandfather said:

Look how lovely the tree is!
So big, so tall,
Its branches are like strong arms
Against the blue sky.

The boy looked and wrapped his arms around the mighty tree, so wide his fingers would not touch.

Empezó una tarde cuando el abuelito
y la abuelita y el niño caminaban
a una colina cercana donde había un árbol viejo y gigante. El abuelito dijo:

¡Mira qué lindo es el árbol!
Tan grande, tan alto,
Sus ramas son como brazos fuertes
Sobre el cielo azul.

El niño miró y abrazó el tronco enorme, tan ancho, que sus dedos no se alcanzaban.

The world is full of wonder and beauty-and it is all right at our fingertips. All we need do is look around with the openness of a child to find the brilliance of our earth and the extraordinary life it supports. For this little boy, the excitement also fills his grandparents with the joy of life anew. Watching a bird fly across the sky, experiencing rain, seeing a rainbow, and watching bees jump from flower to flower, his day is one miracle after another, each opening a door of understanding for him to the most important truth we all possess but often forget: we are all one with nature.

This self-esteem building journey through the miracles that are in our own backyard fosters a kinship with the environment as it promotes the beauty and joy of a strong relationship with grandparents. Perhaps most important, however, is the message delivered by the delight and love of Grandma and Grandpa: this little boy-and your child-is just as beautiful as all he sees and even more treasured by those he loves and who love him.

Inspired by her own grandson's nonstop whirl of motion and openness, Marti Skarupa's exciting day full of wondrous images and sensory connections is every grandparent's favorite day, and is now yours to enjoy as well. The perfect way to introduce and teach your child a new language, Look How Lovely! ¡Mira qué lindo! will bring happiness to your child-and warmth to your heart.
